OEM vs ODM

Which Manufacturing Model Fits Your Project?

OEM and ODM serve different needs. Understanding the difference helps you choose the right path, control costs, and speed up your launch.

OEM
Original Equipment Manufacturing

You select from our existing product models. We manufacture them with your logo, packaging, and color preferences. Fast, low-risk, proven designs.

  • ✓ Choose from 32+ existing models
  • ✓ Logo printing + custom packaging
  • ✓ MOQ from 500 units
  • ✓ Indicative production time: 15-20 days
Ideal for: Quick launch, promotional products, distributors testing a new category
ODM
Original Design Manufacturing

You bring the concept. Our R&D team designs the circuit, tooling, firmware, and exterior from scratch. Tooling ownership, design rights and any exclusivity are defined in the manufacturing agreement.

  • ✓ Custom PCBA and circuit design
  • ✓ Proprietary mold and tooling
  • ✓ Custom firmware development
  • ✓ MOQ typically from 2,000 units for new tooling or original structural development
Ideal for: Brands seeking exclusive products, market differentiation, patented designs

In OEM manufacturing, the buyer selects an existing product and applies their branding. In ODM manufacturing, the factory designs and develops a new product from scratch based on the buyer’s specifications. Most B2B buyers start with OEM for lower risk and faster launch, then move to ODM as their brand grows.

FAQ

OEM/ODM Questions, Answered

Everything B2B buyers ask before starting a power bank manufacturing project.

What is the difference between OEM and ODM for power banks?

For YULIDA projects, first distinguish branding on an existing model, product configuration changes and new product development. Existing platforms can reduce development work; custom electronics, tooling or firmware require an agreed specification and validation plan. Tooling ownership, design rights and any exclusivity must be stated in the manufacturing agreement.

Compare the manufacturing agreement checklist with the development scope before commissioning tooling.

What is the minimum order quantity (MOQ) for custom power banks?

YULIDA’s standard MOQ depends on the customization level. Logo and standard packaging projects start at 500 units. Product-level customization typically starts at 1,000 units. New tooling or original structural development typically starts at 2,000 units, subject to engineering review and quotation.

The production ranges shown above are planning estimates. Confirm sample, tooling, material, production and inspection milestones separately, including the approvals that start each stage. Use the RFQ checklist to request a project schedule.

Can I get a sample before placing a large order?

Yes. Samples can be arranged for evaluation before mass production. Specify whether you need a stock evaluation unit, a branded sample or a pre-production sample matching the approved configuration. Availability, preparation time, sample charges, courier costs and any credit against a bulk order are confirmed in the quotation.

Retain the approved sample, specification revision and acceptance results. Use the sample approval checklist to document the production reference.

What certifications do your power banks carry?

Compliance is model- and market-specific. Depending on the selected configuration, available files may include CE-related evidence, FCC reports, RoHS reports, UN 38.3 transport-test evidence, China CCC documentation, or other market-specific reports. Factory-audit and quality-management documents are reviewed separately from product reports. Request the current files for the exact model before placing an order.

Check the product model, configuration, issuing body, report scope and current status using the compliance document guide.

How do you ensure consistent quality across production batches?

YULIDA uses a documented inspection workflow covering electrical function, charging performance and cosmetic finish. The applicable inspection points, sampling, acceptance criteria and aging procedure are defined in the approved quality plan for the selected model. A 72-hour battery-cell-lot aging procedure applies where specified in that plan.

Request the approved specification revision, inspection checklist, available test and aging records, and batch identification. The quality-control process and capacity test guide explain what to review.

Do you offer custom firmware development for smart power banks?

Yes. For ODM projects, firmware work may cover the TFT display interface, supported charging protocols, automatic shutoff behavior and power management. Displayed information, device compatibility, update methods and development scope depend on the selected hardware and approved specification.

Define the display states, charging modes, target devices, firmware revision and acceptance tests in the product specification.

What shipping options and documentation do you provide?

Air and sea transport options depend on the product, destination, carrier acceptance and current lithium-battery requirements. Agree the Incoterm and named place separately from the transport method. Confirm the commercial invoice, packing list, applicable battery transport evidence and route-specific declarations with the responsible shipper.

Use the shipping guide to plan the shipment. Inspection arrangements, insurance and warranty terms belong in the quotation or order agreement; see the after-sales FAQ.
